As students make progress in their careers, marketing management opportunities
will normally open for them. Generally, the managerial side of marketing consists
of planning, implementing, and controlling specific types of marketing activities.
Graduates who concentrate in selling and sales management secure jobs as sales
representatives or sales managers for companies involved with many types of consumer
and industrial goods and services. Retailers recruit on university campuses to
find marketing graduates to train as buyers and store managers. Career paths
in advertising take numerous directions. Some graduates find employment with
advertising agencies or advertising departments in major corporations. Career
opportunities also are possible in a wide variety of organizations that specialize
in research activities. Currently, manufacturers of consumer goods, advertising
agencies, and advertising media are major employers of marketing research specialists.
Marketing graduates also land jobs as product or brand managers who oversee the
marketing activities for a particular product or line of products. Further, marketing
specialists are in demand for logistics functions that involve managing the flow
of products from the production line to the consumer. Increasingly, service organizations,
such as banks and hospitals, and non-profit organizations seek qualified individuals
to manage their marketing activities. Most recently, companies in all areas need
talented marketing specialists to effectively manage their e-commerce functions
and new technologies. These new technologies have emerged from the explosive
growth of the Internet and the vast amount of information now easily accessible.
