Sherry E. Sullivan earned her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University and was an associate professor at Memphis State University before joining the Organizational Development and Human Resource Management programs at Bowling Green State University. She has taught undergraduate, Honors, MBA, Executive, and Ph.D. level courses on Careers, Human Resource Management, Organizational Development, Organizational Behavior, and Training. She has over 70 publications to her credit including articles in Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Executive, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Human Resource Management Review, Career Development Quarterly, Organizational Dynamics, and Business Horizons. She has presented at meetings including the National Academy of Management, National Society on Aging, Eastern Academy of Management, Midwest Academy of Management, United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and Southern Management Association. Her research interests include career theory, stress, entrepreneurship and international human resource management.

 

Sherry served on the Southern Management Association Board (SMA) (1993-1996; 1999-2002) and chaired (2003) the SMA Outstanding Service Award committee. She was Co-chair (1994; 2002) and Chair (1996) of SMA’s Networking Event, was the Southern Regional Network Director (1991-1993) for the Careers Division, and with Dr. Gayle Baugh, organized SMA’s first Careers Caucus. Sherry was the 1998 Division Chair and 1996 Program Chair for the Careers Division, Editor (1993-1995) and Associate Editor (1989-1993) of the Careers' Division newsletter, and currently serves as Archivist (1999-present). She was on the Executive Committee of the Women in Management Division (1994-1997) and chaired the Sage Award Committee (1996-1998; 2000-2001). Sherry was the Treasurer for Midwest Academy of Management (1997-1999) and was the 1997 Human Resources, Careers and Organizational Development Track Chair. She is a mentor through the National Academy of Management. She is Secretary (2003) and Chair-Elect (2005) for the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Sherry is also on the editorial board for International Journal of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (IJSBE) (2002-present), Journal of Managerial Psychology (2001-present), Cross-Cultural Management: An International Journal (1994-1997), and Group and Organizational Management, (GOM)(1997-present). She was GOM’s special editor for the 2002 issue on Careers in the 21st Century and is the associate editor for IJSBE (2003-present).

 

Sherry has received numerous awards for best research papers, service contributions, best reviewing, and teaching accomplishments. At the 2002 National Academy of Management Meetings, she was awarded the prestigious Janet Chusmir Award for mentoring and service. At BGSU she was the department’s Patton Scholar (1995) and designated as a University Author-Scholar (2003). Sherry was also named the Reed Center’s Outstanding Educator (2003). She has earned ten grants, including grants from the Department of Education and the Society for Human Resource Management. She has earned numerous scholarships including awards from The Reader=s Digest Corporation, 21st Century Leaders, and The Ohio State University. She consults mainly with not-for-profit businesses and as an executive career coach.
