Health Care is one of the largest and fastest growing areas of business in the United States. More than one trillion dollars, (12% of the nation’s Gross National Product), is spent each year on health care and with an aging population this amount is likely to increase. In addition to its size and growth, the way health care is being delivered is going through dynamic changes. Health care administrators are playing a vital role in these changes.

Health care administrators work to provide us with the highest quality of care at the lowest cost. They do this in a variety of areas such as managing health care institutions, health insurance and third-party administration plans, and working with businesses in helping design or choose a health care plan for their employees. The program’s goal is to provide students with preparation for entry level management positions in health care administration.   • A Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree
    Health care is a competitive business which requires successful administrators to have developed good business skills. The Health Care Administration specialization is designed to provide students with these skills by requiring them to complete a total of 75 hours in business courses. Courses in accounting, applied statistics, economics, finance, law, operations research, management, and marketing are required of all students in the specialization.
  • Nine Credit Hours of Courses in Health Care Administration
    Every Student in the specialization must complete a health care administration core consisting of Health Care Organization and Structure (BA 325), Health Care Law (LEGS 425), and Health Care Case Problems (BA 420).
  • Nine Credit Hours of Courses in Management Concentration
    Every student in the specialization must complete a management concentration in one of the following areas: accounting, general management, health care information systems, human resource management, marketing, and staff planning and research.
  • A 240-Hour Internship
    Every student in the specialization must complete an internship of at least 240 hours at a health care institution. The internships, which are arranged by the HCA director, are taken in the student’s management concentration.
