140      Final exam

100      Team project (or Individual project, with permission of instructor only)

30        “Aha and Oh No!” Journal entries (5 points for each of 6 entries)

570      Total points

Exams 1, 2, 3 & Final exam:  Exams may be multiple choice, matching, short answer and essays.   Questions will be asked based on reading material assigned and material discussed in class.  If a student feels an exam question may have been incorrectly graded, s/he may schedule a meeting with the instructor during office hours within one week following grading of the exam.  The student must provide information to demonstrate understanding of the material and support his/her position.  No make up exams will be offered without medical or official school documentation.

Team project (or Self-management project, with permission of instructor only). Students will be assigned to teams during the first half of the semester.  Teams will work together on 1) in-class exercises throughout the course and 2) a team presentation and paper during the second half of the semester.  If a student has a compelling desire to work independently, alternative arrangements may be discussed with the instructor.  Independent projects will not be considered for points without prior permission of the instructor.

“Aha and Oh No!” Journal entries.  During in class writings, students will be asked to reflect upon how class material applies to their own experiences.  (This work is hand written.)  Timing of the writing will be at the discretion of the instructor and there will be no “make ups” for missed writings.  There will be a minimum of seven opportunities for writing entries.

Class preparation

Students should read and prepare class material as assigned prior to coming to class.  This includes text chapters, case analysis, and exercises.  Based on feedback from teams and at the discretion of the instructor, a lack of class preparation may result in a deduction of up to 2% points for the course at the end of the semester.  To achieve the student learning outcome of applying theory and research to practical situations that occur within organizations, students will analyze cases and complete OB Online and Internet exercises throughout the semester.

OB in Action Case Analysis.  In general, class will begin each chapter with discussion and analysis of the corresponding OB in Action case.  To answer the case questions, students must have read the textbook chapter!  Preparation of this material does not require a written response.

OB Online and Internet Exercises.  Exercises will be assigned in-class. To prepare these exercises, students will need to access the text website and write the answers to the corresponding questions prior to coming to class.

Attendance.  It is understandable that scheduling conflicts may occur during the semester.  I respect students’ ability to make choices regarding difficult situations and do not require excuses or notifications for missed classes.  It is the student’s responsibility to get class notes from other classmates.  It should be noted that a student not in class cannot participate in class to learn from others and demonstrate his/her own preparation.

Prerequisite:  STAT 211.  STAT 200, PSYC 290, SOC 369, MATH 115, and MATH 247 are satisfactory substitutes for STAT 211.

Academic Honesty. The Bowling Green State University policy on academic honesty will be strictly enforced.  All work, unless explicitly stated otherwise, is intended to represent your individual efforts.  When appropriate, all citations are expected to be correctly documented using APA formatting.

Special Circumstances. All Bowling Green State University resources to support special circumstances will be made available as appropriate (http://www.bgsu.edu/offices/student_affairs/disability).
