  Recent Student Accomplishments  
     
 

Students in the Department of Economics are often the recipients of awards or earn recognition from a campus or national agency. Below we report some of the recent awards that our students have won.

  • Anna Glett won first place in the seventh annual National Post-Secondary Russian Essay Contest sponsored by the American Council of Teachers of Russian.
  • Seven students were admitted to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges: Jason DeWitt, Ryan Eiben, Anna Glett, Irina Hakobyan, Magen Massey, Bryan McDaniel, and Anna Novozhilova.
  • Anna Glett earned second place in the 2006 BGSU Undergraduate Paper Contest for her macroeconomics paper on the brain drain from developing countries to the United States.
  • Ryan Eiben was one of the ten finalists for the Outstanding Senior Award at Beyond BG.
  • The department inducted several new members into Omicron Delta Epsilon this academic year: Jason DeWitt, Ryan Eiben, Qingyuan Ge, Evan Glasier, Anna Glett, Jake Hutchinson, Myron Lewis, Brent Meyer, Bethany Preston, Andrew Smith, James Sowers, Paul Spiller, and Yumi Tanaka.
  • Ryan Eiben was awarded one of the 2006 ODE Golden Key Awards. This is a national award and Ryan was recognized for his academic achievements and leadership qualities.
  • Magen Massey received the 2006 Academic Achievement Scholarship.
  • James Sowers was awarded the Leo Dirmeyer Business Scholarship.
  • Anna Glett was awarded the George and Joan Howick Alumni Book Award.
  • Andrew Smith received one of the CBA Alumni Book awards.
  • Ryan Eiben received the Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key.
  • Magen Massey was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma.
  • James Sowers was awarded the Paul Haas Economics Scholarship and Vimala Krishnan Book Award.
  • Anna Glett was awarded the Dolores Reynolds Book Award.
  • Andrew Smith received The Navin Scholarship for Public Sector Economics.
  • Two graduate students recognized for their research: Irina Hakobyan, published her work, “An Econometric Model of Exchange Rate Bubbles,” in the 2006 issue of the Journal of Economics and Politics, and Xioahong Wang coauthored and co-presented work on self-employment with Dr. Benedict at the 2006 Western Economic Association meetings.
  • Anna Novozhilova earned second place in the 2007 BGSU Undergraduate Paper Contest for her macroeconomics paper on Skilled Migration from Developing and Transition Economies to the US.
