Resource Room

The Canadian Studies Center maintains a resource room that includes books, government documents, magazines, maps, tapes, videos, and on-line databases. Covering virtually every subject, we have information on political parties and government practices, demographics and social norms, business and economic trends, tax codes, legal topics, and specialized directories.

On-line databases available through the Center make it easy to handle very specific information requests. A partial list of computer databases we consult include:

  • Statistics Canada -- E-Stat and CANSIM (Canadian Socio-Economic Information Management System). E-STAT is a program which provides educational institutions with a huge data warehouse containing accurate, reliable, and timely data on Canada and its population. Bowling Green State University students and teachers can access E-STAT from the institution without entering a password. Click here to begin your search.

The Canadian Studies Center also subscribes to University-wide access to CANSIM. This searchable database, collected by Statistics Canada and operated by the University of Toronto, contains hundreds of thousands of time series matrices on social and economic information and covers nearly every aspect of Canadian life. Click here to begin your search.

The Center also has access to University-wide resources on-line such as the U.S. Census and Lexis-Nexis. Center staff have expertise in locating and retrieving Canadian data on the Internet and is available to provide an introduction to these resources.

Hard copy sources of information at the Center are tailored to take the mystery out of doing business across the border. Helpful titles include:

  • NAFTA Customs Procedures Manual
  • Canadian Trade Index
  • Canadian Almanac & Directory

The Center also subscribes to several magazines and journals including Canadian Business Economics, Survey of Current Business, Canadian Business, Bank of Canada Review and Supplement, Journal of Canadian Studies, and Maclean's.

BGSU faculty can search the Canadian Government Select Depository site for resources related to their courses and research. Many of these materials are available electronically via the website. Requests for other depository items must be placed with the BGSU Jerome Library Canadian Studies Liaison Bob Graham at rgraham@bgnet.bgsu.edu.

For further information on resources available or assistance with information requests, contact Christine Drennen, Interim Director, at +1-419-372-2457 or e-mail: cdrennen@bgsu.edu.
